The Original Hedge Rose | Easy and Rewarding

The rose that began a revolution. When Simplicity was introduced in 1979 by Jackson & Perkins breeder extraordinaire Bill Warriner, it changed the way American gardeners thought about growing roses. Instead of a spindly, fussy shrub that would set a few beautiful blooms each year in the isolation of the rose garden, Simplicity brought the majesty of the rose into the world of the hardworking hedge. This densely branched, wonderfully healthy hedge rose showed gardeners that roses could be grown in the crowded border and treated like any other sun-loving shrub.

Simplicity Hedge Rose has many merits, but its healthy foliage must come first on anyone's list. Disease resistant and very tolerant of heat and humidity, these leaves keep their light-green appeal right through the worst summer weather. They stand up to pests and still look great in fall. Simplicity Hedge Rose was the precursor of today's rough-and-ready shrub roses, except that this lovely rose threw double blooms and fragrance into the bargain.

Descended from the classic Iceberg, Simplicity Hedge Rose is very vigorous, reaching 4 to 5 feet high and up to 3 feet wide. Simplicity Hedge Rose is made for dense planting, forming a "living wall" of lush greenery. Don't hardscape the sunny garden—hedge it with this remarkable rose.

And the flowers are as spectacular as the habit. Soft pink, fully double, and lightly fragrant, they arise several times a season in great waves, the heaviest bloom in late spring or early summer but intermittent flowers continuing until autumn in many climates. And again, the key is "easy"—these flowers need no spraying or disbudding or other special treatment to reach their full 3-inch size. They appear in clusters that keep setting new buds for weeks, so the garden stays colorful all season.

Simplicity Hedge Rose introduced the concept of the hedge rose to gardeners everywhere, and Simplicity Hedge Rose is still among the most popular varieties. Give this classic a place of honor in your landscape, and Simplicity Hedge Rose will demonstrate its remarkably low maintenance growth for years to come.
