Iceberg Floribunda Rose

A World Federation of Rose Societies Hall of Fame

Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society

Considered to be one of the best roses of all time, 'Iceberg' deserves all the praise. A low-maintenance, easy-going, trouble-free shrub, it's most popular as a hedge rose or in mass plantings. The flowers are excellent, they're large, pure white, and sweetly scented, lovely in the garden and equally nice for bouquets. Individual sprats can have up to a dozen flowers. These flowers appear a bit later than some other roses but continue to bloom nonstop for the rest of the summer.

Reaching a mature size of 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, 'Iceberg' maintains a graceful, well-branched form that fits beautifully into a variety of garden settings. Its blooms are medium to large, typically 3 to 4 inches across, with a classic high-centered shape that softens as the petals unfurl. Known for its delicate yet distinctive fragrance, 'Iceberg' emits a light, honey-like scent that enhances its charm in garden beds, hedges, and cut flower arrangements. Iceberg grows vigorously and has a bushy, rounded habit of light-green foliage that is extremely disease resistant. This enduring floribunda rose, originally introduced in 1958, combines size, beauty, and fragrance in a way few other roses can match.

Another virtue of 'Iceberg' is that it is so easily managed. If you keep the bushes pruned low, they stay compact and give you loads of blooms on long cutting stems. If you let them grow taller, you'll still have a great show but the flowers will be carried on shorter stems. Either way, it's hard to find a better landscape rose.

So far, not sure
This shopper rated the product 3 out of 5 stars

So far the plant has produced only 5-6 petal single blooms. I hope the petal count will improve as the plant matures!

Fantastic Roses
This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

Bought these to climb up a trellis to add some shade and privacy on our patio. Planted them a few days after they arrived and sprinkled with a bit of fertilizer. It has been about a month and they are already climbing a third of the way up the trellis and there are blooms. They look fantastic and I know they will continue to get better. This is my first purchase from this company but will not be my last.

Good Decision
This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I saw a clip with Martha Stewart talking about iceberg and have desired one since then. I bought this late in the season last year as an own root, and planted it on a North wall in zone 6 (it is planted near the east edge of the wall, so it does get some extra sun that away). It’s been amazing. Tons of growth and the most blooms of any of my new roses last year. It overwintered well, and I’m looking forward to it’s second season. Its thorns, so far, are manageable and the canes have been easy to work with. Best purchase I made last year of the dozen or so I purchased.

Great Condition
This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

My iceberg climbing roses arrived in great condition. Planted a couple days after receiving. They were a lot larger then I thought I would be receiving. No complaints. The roses have been planted for a couple weeks. They are thriving and are starting to sprout. Will order more from this company.

Late started zone 8b bareroot
This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

Though it was truly too late to purchase and plant this beauty,I took a chance and bought this rose, which wasl available in bareroot form only at the time. It arrived in good condition with a very healthy, springy root system and the plant wood was strong and green, and one pale, limp leaf bud. Due to my schedule,I was not able to plant it for three days, so I soaked the roots for several hours and then planted it in a 5 gallon bucket with rich compost, pot ash and some good draining stony soil at the bottom. I've had good luck with potted roses using this method. The root had one droopy decomposing leaf bud start on it by the time I got to it, so I removed the leaf bud and and watered the newly potted rose and hoped for the best. Three weeks later, there are now 16 fat healthy growing new leaf buds. Hopefully it will get a nice start and bring flowers in the latter part of the summer. I would definitely purchase again. Thank you Jackson and Perkins.

Choosing Your Roses

Bare root roses are the most common form of roses for spring and early season planting, and come in two types: grafted and own root.

Grafted Bare root Roses
Own root Bare root Roses

Grafted roses, sometimes referred to as budded bare root roses, have roots that belong to a different variety of rose than the shoots. While the shoots will grow into the variety of rose you've selected, the root variety has been specially grown and developed for hardiness, improved resistance to common diseases, and improved resistance to certain weather conditions. The roots on any grafted rose you receive are usually already two years old, so they'll establish in your garden more quickly when planted.

Own root roses are grown from rose shoot cuttings and develop their own root system. Unlike grafted roses, both their roots and shoots come from the same variety of plant.

All Jackson & Perkins bare root roses are maintained in a suspended state of growth in our state-of-the-art wet cooler, so they'll be delivered to you with no foliage or blooms. The wet cooler has a uniform storage temperature set just above freezing and uses a fog system to provide consistent humidity of 100%, ensuring the roses remain fully hydrated and don't exit dormancy before leaving our facility. While you might see some variance in size, even within the same variety of bare root rose, all our roses meet the same rigorous standards of quality.

So, not sure which type of bare root rose you should choose? Don't worry, we've got that covered. We've researched which varieties of bare root roses grow better as grafted or own root, and both types can be planted in the early spring months, so just choose the variety of rose you're most interested in and get planting.

Though you might be surprised or intimidated when you receive a box of bare root roses filled with roots and shoots, rest assured, with the proper care, these little bundles will grow into stunning roses.

Container Roses

Container Roses

container roses are typically available in 2-quart sizes or larger and come with established foliage that may or may not have blooms. While bare root roses should generally be planted in early spring, container roses allow you quite a bit more flexibility in planting time, from spring all the way through fall in many zones. Fall can be a good season to plant container roses because it allows them enough time to establish themselves before cold or freezing temperatures arrive.

From seed to market a new garden rose can take 8 to 10 years to develop. Every year, thousands of seedlings are grown but only a handful are selected to move into the trial phase. During this time, potential new roses are grown and evaluated in different climatic regions of the country. Our rosarians are looking for rose bushes that have stronger disease resistance, vigorous growth habits, and clean healthy foliage. When it comes to blooms, they are looking for improved flower form, unique colors, and strong fragrance.

Today Jackson & Perkins offers over 200 varieties of roses that includes a broad selection of exclusive roses, historical favorites, and innovative genetics from hybridizers around the world. We have two seasons each year for roses. In the spring, we offer bare root rose bushes, bare root 36” trees, 24” patio trees, and container grown roses. Our fall season is all bush roses, and they are available in 2QT and 1GL containers.
