Cold Hardy Roses

Roses for Zones 3, 4, and 5

Loved the world over, roses grow in almost all climates. But the first key to success with roses is selecting varieties that are adapted to your growing conditions. Choosing roses for gardens in Zones 5 through 9 is a breeze since most roses grow well in those zones. However, finding roses for Zones 3 or 4 can be a challenge. That’s why we have curated this collection of cold hardy roses that will thrive in cold climates. These varieties are tougher and hardier than most other roses.

Over the last two decades, breeders have had great success developing cold hardy roses in a broad range of classes, with a variety of flower sizes and colors. This collection includes not only new cultivars with the most current genetics, but also older varieties that have proven themselves over the years.

Hardy roses have decorated gardens across the country, and it has been because of gardeners interested in preserving these roses that we have so many varieties available today. The plants that survived have passed the test of time in their climates. Now, these cold hardy roses can possibly be used to modify current plants and give them the same stamina to stand up to native conditions such as extreme cold.

If you live in Zones 3-4 or you have loved ones who do, you don’t have to avoid roses. Instead, be sure to gift or plant cold hardy roses yourself that have the ability to stand up to and survive the extreme cold that is usual in those zones. You’ll be glad you did when you see that first gorgeous bloom open at the end of spring.
