My mom has bought Jackson & Perkins roses for years, and I was so excited to finally have the opportunity to order some myself I was so excited about the climbing roses. I purchased the bare root roses, followed every instruction they gave, and planted them exactly as directed but nothing ever happened. They’re just sticks now, completely dead.
I reached out to customer service hoping they would make it right, but because I was about a month past their warranty window (I was just waiting to see if the roses would come back to life), they refused to help in any way. I was honestly shocked.
It’s such a shame for a company that’s been around for so many years to treat loyal customers like that. I even dug up my mom’s Jackson & Perkins roses from her home after she passed and replanted them at my house because they meant so much to her.
I keep seeing their ads pop up on my phone, and I would truly love to buy roses again but after this experience, I won’t be purchasing from Jackson & Perkins anymore. I definitely wouldn’t recommend buying their bare root roses, and it’s really disappointing to say that about a company with such a long history. This happened a while ago, but I wanted to write a review before I unsubscribe to their text messages.

My First Climber

Being patriotic I just HAD to have this as my first climbing rose. It's only been in the ground about a month, has already blossomed once, and is already being trained up the trellis. The first bloom was more of a salmon color, but that's okay as it blends with the other rose bushes in the same garden.

I bought this rose last year, JP shipped the rose to me in May in the North Austin area. It flowered the same year. The color is more like orange than red. The smell is very powerful, like smelling a fake rose scent. Then this spring, all the new leaves came out in a burgundy color, the whole plant have a beautify color on the leaves which is very interesting. So far very resistance to black spots of all the roses in my garden. I highly recommend this rose, it is pretty and smell very nice.
Bare root roses are the most common form of roses for spring and early season planting, and come in two types: grafted and own root.
Grafted roses, sometimes referred to as budded bare root roses, have roots that belong to a different variety of rose than the shoots. While the shoots will grow into the variety of rose you've selected, the root variety has been specially grown and developed for hardiness, improved resistance to common diseases, and improved resistance to certain weather conditions. The roots on any grafted rose you receive are usually already two years old, so they'll establish in your garden more quickly when planted.
Own root roses are grown from rose shoot cuttings and develop their own root system. Unlike grafted roses, both their roots and shoots come from the same variety of plant.

The wet cooler has a uniform storage temperature set just above freezing and uses a fog system to provide consistent humidity of 100%, ensuring the roses remain fully hydrated and don't exit dormancy before leaving our facility. While you might see some variance in size, even within the same variety of bare root rose, all our roses meet the same rigorous standards of quality.

Container Roses
Container roses are typically available in 2-quart sizes or larger and come with established foliage that may or may not have blooms. While bare root roses should generally be planted in early spring, container roses allow you quite a bit more flexibility in planting time, from spring all the way through fall in many zones. Fall can be a good season to plant container roses because it allows them enough time to establish themselves before cold or freezing temperatures arrive.
