Welcome Home Hybrid Tea Rose

Say "Welcome Home" to new homeowners, returning veterans, a new baby coming home from the hospital, or for no occasion at all to any of your rose-growing friends with this big, free-flowering, beautiful hybrid tea. Welcome Home is over-the-top in size, flower production, color, and fragrance. You could not imagine a more cheerful addition to the sunny garden.

Bred right here at Jackson & Perkins and introduced by our own Keith Zary as part of the Ultimate Rose Collection in 2007, Welcome Home offers enormous 4-inch blooms packed with fragrant light-yellow petals. The scent is spicy licorice, and the form is classic hybrid tea: pointed ovoid buds slowly unfurl into high-centered blooms with tightly spaced whorls of soft, recurved petals.

But Welcome Home has a surprise or two up its sleeve. The new blooms open with peachy pink centers, then gradually turn yellow as they mature. This means that when you see a newly blooming shrub, you are likely to find flowers in all stages of turning from one soft pastel tone to another before deepening and brightening.

Welcome Home blooms in waves all summer, the flowers typically borne one per long stem. Excellent for the vase, they share their anise scent with the entire room and perfume the garden bed nicely. This is a large hybrid tea, fully 5 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, so it makes a lovely hedge as well as a back-of-the-border standout. And there are armloads of blooms to be enjoyed all summer long.

This hybrid tea is the product of two other superb, yellow-flowered varieties: its seed parent is Sun Goddess from our own Bill Warriner, a wonderfully fragrant, rich yellow rose. The pollen parent is the French hybrid tea O Sole Mio®, a beautifully formed rose. No wonder Welcome Home is suffused with rich color and scent. Make a home for it in your landscape this season, and give it as a long-lasting, living gift to anyone you know who is returning to their home (and garden) after an absence. It will be treasured by all who grow it.
