Description
An early season variety that's cold hardy to Zone 4 with winter protection

Vitis Edelweiss White Grape, a graceful woody deciduous grapevine, marries aesthetics with productivity. Admire the vine's delicate white blooms in mid to late spring, which give way to abundant clusters of luscious, aromatic, white-seeded fruit from early summer to early fall. Early harvest yields grapes with high sugar content and a sweet, pleasant flavor, while late harvest intensifies the taste with musky notes and the distinctive Vitis labrusca foxy aroma. The grapes can be enjoyed fresh, juiced, or transformed into jams, jellies, and wines. Edelweiss wines encompass a spectrum from sweet to semi-sweet and feature a mild, fruity labrusca flavor. Early harvest unveils hints of pineapple, peach, and citrus, providing a sensory journey for discerning palates.

This robust and highly vigorous vine demands strategic pruning and training in the second or third year, after allowing it to run freely the first year. Grace your garden with its presence on a wire trellis, espalier it against a courtyard wall, or make a bold statement on an arbor, pergola, or fence. Regular pruning and spraying optimize fruit production, and its robust disease resistance ensures longevity in your garden.

Sun-soaked locations with well-draining soil are ideal, but 'Edelweiss' adapts to various soil types, thriving in clays and loams enriched with organic matter. Shelter it from winter winds, and in Zone 4, provide winter protection due to its early bud break.

This self-fertile vine bears fruit independently, eliminating the need for pollen from other varieties.

'Edelweiss' was introduced by Elmer Swenson, at the University of Minnesota, when Mr. Swenson was on the staff at the U of M Horticultural Research Center.

Grapes ship as 1-year-old plants.
