Vernique® 'Shining Sea' Speedwell produces elegant spikes of light lavender blue flowers that rise above refined green foliage from late spring into midsummer. The rounded flower spikes create a soft vertical accent while bringing cool color to sunny borders and perennial gardens. Its compact, upright habit and extended bloom season make it a standout performer in both formal and naturalistic plantings.
Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds regularly visit the blooms, adding movement and pollinator activity throughout the season. 'Shining Sea' works beautifully in mass plantings, borders, containers, and cutting gardens where its flower spikes provide structure and contrast. Pair it with roses, catmint, salvia, echinacea, and ornamental grasses for a layered display of color and texture.
Hardy in Zones 4 through 8, this compact speedwell grows approximately 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide. It performs best in full sun to partial shade with average garden soil and consistent moisture. Removing spent flower spikes encourages additional flowering and prolongs the display. Deer resistant, easy care, and long blooming, 'Shining Sea' delivers reliable garden performance year after year.
