A species rose and member of the Old Garden Rose Collection, R. Palustris 'Swamp Rose' is a wild, native species rose that grows naturally in the southern and eastern regions of the U.S. It is a one season bloomer, either in spring or summer. Borne singly on arching branches, the 3-inch flowers have 25 medium pink petals and a subtle, sweet scent. The blooms attract pollinators to the garden, including bees and butterflies, but are also suitable for cut flower displays, especially for cute kitchen bouquets. Pea-sized red rose hips follow the flowers and are a tasty end-of-season treat for songbirds or delicious jellies, jams, and teas for you.
R. Palustris 'Swamp Rose' is a tough shrub with vigorous growth and a tall, spreading habit of disease resistant, medium green foliage. At full maturity, it stands at approximately 6 feet tall and 8 feet wide. As its name suggests, 'Swamp Rose' prefers moist, boggy soils rich with organic matter but does not tolerate standing water. Since it's easy to grow, this rose is a good option for novice gardeners. Use in mixed beds, borders, and hedges.

Bare root roses are the most common form of roses for spring and early season planting, and come in two types: grafted and own root.
Grafted roses, sometimes referred to as budded bare root roses, have roots that belong to a different variety of rose than the shoots. While the shoots will grow into the variety of rose you've selected, the root variety has been specially grown and developed for hardiness, improved resistance to common diseases, and improved resistance to certain weather conditions. The roots on any grafted rose you receive are usually already two years old, so they'll establish in your garden more quickly when planted.
Own root roses are grown from rose shoot cuttings and develop their own root system. Unlike grafted roses, both their roots and shoots come from the same variety of plant.
