'Purple De Oro' is essentially the same plant as the enormously popular yellow-flowered daylily 'Stella De Oro', but with purple flowers. Both versions are extremely adaptable, easy to grow, and long flowering.
'Purple De Oro' produces ruffled, reddish-purple flowers with yellowish throats. Although the flowers last a short time, the plant blooms abundantly and repeatedly throughout the growing season. Deadheading spent flowers promotes reblooming. The flowers sit atop leafless flower stalks, hovering above the attractive compact clumps of arching, grass-like leaves. In mild winter climates, the foliage is evergreen to semievergreen. In cold climates where the foliage dies back, cut the plant to the ground.
Classified as a miniature, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial fits almost anywhere, grows well in a wide range of soils, multiplies freely, and can be used to control erosion. It is also tolerant of heat, humidity, and air pollution. Plant in beds, borders, or mass plantings, anywhere you want to attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
