Lavender Care Guide

ARRIVAL:

Open your gift and unwrap the container, then follow the instructions below carefully to grow and enjoy a healthy plant.

BLOOM TIME/REBLOOMING:

Lavender will typically bloom late spring into summer. It blooms from the tips, so pruning the tips back after blooming will result in a bushier plant, and removing faded blooms encourages reblooming.

PLACEMENT:

Display your lavender where it will receive as much light as possible. A southern facing window that gets a minimum of 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight is ideal. Rotate the pot frequently to keep the plant lush and full. Maintain indoor temperatures around 70°F during the day and around 55°F at night. It will tolerate slightly lower temperatures in the winter months.

WATER/FEEDING:

Water thoroughly but be sure to drain the excess water so the bottom of the soil and roots are not soggy, which can cause root rot. Between waterings, do not allow the plant to dry out completely. Generally, if the top 1 inch of soil is dry to the touch, it needs to be watered. If the lower leaves are yellowing, it is usually an indication the lavender needs more water. Keep in mind, if you move your lavender outdoors, it may dry out quicker and need more water vs indoors.

Apply a complete liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks at 1/2 strength throughout the growing period, typically from spring into summer.

Jackson & Perkins offers a selection of fertilizer & plant care products. We suggest using AlgoPlus fertilizer for the general health and maintenance of your plant.

TRANSPLANTING:

When your plant has outgrown its current pot, transplant in early spring, if possible. With each repotting, increase the pot diameter 1 to 2 inches in size and use fresh, high-quality potting soil.

IMPORTANT: Ornamental plant material should not be eaten. Keep away from pets and children.
