Kniphofia Glowstick is an herbaceous perennial offering 3 seasons of interest, blooming continuously and abundantly summer through fall. Borne on tall, thick scapes, an abundance of terminal flower spikes, dense with clusters of drooping, tubular, bright yellow blooms, rise above a basal tuft of finely textured foliage, which resembles ornamental grass. Nectar-rich, the flowers are irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds; extremely showy, they are superb cut flowers for summer bouquets.
A Kniphofia uvaria, commonly known as red-hot poker or torch lily, Glowstick is a clump-forming rhizomatous plant with an upright habit. Shown to best effect massed or grouped, red-hot poker is a great garden or container plant and makes an excellent specimen. It is a good option for xeriscapes.
Easy to grow, red-hot poker grows best in sunny locations with average, evenly moist, well-draining soil. It is heat and drought tolerant and deer and rabbit resistant. It is a low maintenance plant, but deadheading faded flowers will promote additional blooms. To protect the crown of the plant throughout winter, do not trim back foliage until the weather begins to warm in spring.
