Create stunning holiday decor or thoughtful gifts with these colorful amaryllis bulbs

Plant Amaryllis Garden Mix bulbs in your favorite pots to enjoy a dazzling display of winter blooms that can reach up to 10 inches across. Amaryllis are cherished for their vibrant, boldly colored flowers, making them perfect gifts or holiday decorations that bring color and life to the colder months. Each stately stem rises 18 to 24 inches tall, topped with elegant blossoms that brighten any room. Adding to the excitement, this mix is a delightful potluck of bulbs that may include both double and single varieties in an array of colors—every bloom is a surprise! Amaryllis are incredibly easy to grow, making them a virtually foolproof choice for gardeners of all levels. They bloom for weeks and can be grown as annuals or regrown year after year for ongoing enjoyment.

The bulbs in this mix hail from South America and belong to the genus Hippeastrum, commonly known as amaryllis. In North America, these tender bulbs are typically grown indoors. To plant, choose a 6- to 8-inch container, fill it about halfway with potting mix, and position the bulb on top. Fill in with more soil, leaving the top third of the bulb exposed above the soil level. This allows room for watering and ensures healthy growth. Amaryllis bulbs thrive at room temperature, and exposure to sunlight will keep them shorter and more compact. As the flower stalk grows, rotate the pot regularly to encourage even growth and prevent toppling.

To regrow amaryllis, follow these steps: After the blooms fade, cut off the flower stalk just above the neck of the bulb, leaving the foliage intact. The leaves are crucial for nourishing the bulb and preparing it for future blooms. Place the pot in a sunny window, water only when the soil is dry, and fertilize regularly. After the danger of frost has passed in spring, move the pot outdoors until fall. Once frost kills the leaves, remove the foliage and allow the potted bulb to rest in a cool, dry place for 2½ months without watering. After the resting period, restart the growing process to enjoy another season of beautiful blooms.

In USDA Zones 9-12, amaryllis can be planted outside in a sunny to partially shaded spot, with protection during freezing temperatures. Plant bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and 1 to 2 inches deep, water well, and fertilize after the leaves appear, continuing this throughout the spring. When replanting outdoors, ensure the neck of the bulb is above the ground and follow the same care steps for continuous enjoyment.
