Description

The red bark stands out beautifully against snow.

4 Seasons of Spectacular Color!

Its ruby stems, rarely seen robust growth and compact and bushy shape make the decorative First Editions Baton Rouge Dogwood a lovely cultivar. The Baton Rouge is among the top Dogwood varieties due to its year-round display of saturated color. Once spring is in full swing, the plant's bright red stems grow and leaf out, and summer puts berries and tiny white flowers on show. When fall hits, the foliage's color turns to a lovely shade of burgundy. Even the white coat of the winter season cannot mask the Baton Rouge's beautiful, bold red stems.

This Dogwood grows best in moist, well-drained soil that range from neutral to acidic. Loamy and sandy soils make an ideal environment, particularly in areas that get sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Gardeners should prune the Baton Rouge to one foot from the ground in order to facilitate new growth. Songbirds will flock to the summer berries, and there is little to worry about from the deer population as they generally avoid the Baton Rouge.
