Euphorbia Watersaver™ Blackbird is an evergreen perennial subshrub offering 3 seasons to year-round interest. Foliage and flowers are equally attractive. Whorled, narrow, linear to obovate leaves emerge bright red and mature to an exceptionally dark purple-black, with the color intensifying in full sun and cooler temperatures. Long-lasting and showy, masses of clustered green-purple blushed "flower" bracts sit atop sturdy dark red stems from early spring through fall, blooming week upon week, providing seemingly endless cut flowers.
A Euphorbia hybrid, also known as wood spurge, Watersaver Blackbird is highly versatile. It has a tidy, compact, clumping habit and forms attractive rosettes, adding substance and bushy texture to the garden. Watersaver Blackbird is drought and heat tolerant (it has survived in a scorching 116°F heat wave), so, it's perfect for a xeriscape, rock garden, or water saver garden. It's also deer and rabbit resistant, so, it's nice in any bed, border, or container.
Easy care, Euphorbia Watersaver Blackbird grows best in a sunny to sun-dappled location with dry to medium moist, well-draining soil.
*Caution: Broken stems exude a substance that can be toxic and irritating to the skin. Use gloves when handling.
