Huge ruffled blooms in the lovely old-fashioned form
True purple roses are very rare, and this splendid plummy/royal purple variety combines intensity of color with a heavenly fragrance and a magnificent petal-packed flower form. Bred by one of the premier American rosarians, Ebb Tide is nothing short of a modern masterpiece.
The flowers are fully 4 inches wide, boasting up to 40 gently reflexed petals of deepest purple around a small frilly yellow center, which won't reveal itself until the blooms are fully extended and mature. A rich, evocative, heady clove-like fragrance emanates from the blooms, filling garden or home with the essence of the summer rose garden.
Ebb Tide is a floribunda, so the blooms arise in small clusters, each bud opening on its own schedule, so that a single snip can bring you a bouquet of buds and blooms that lasts for weeks in the vase. Ebb Tide flowers in waves all summer long, banked by medium-sized, bright green semi-glossy foliage. Expect the plant to reach up to 4 feet high and wide, or somewhat smaller in containers.
This beauty is the creation of Tom Carruth, who has grown numerous All-America Rose Selection winners. Introduced in 2006, it includes in its parentage Sweet Chariot and Blue Nile, both outstanding blue/purple cultivars. Fragrance, form, and colorwe predict that you will fall in love with this outstanding floribunda.
