Zantedeschia 'Captain Fuego' Calla Lily Bulbs

'Captain Fuego' is a distinctive calla lily, reaching 18 to 24 inches in height and width. This summer-blooming variety produces five or more flower stalks in its first year. The 2- to 3-inch chalice-shaped flowers display a captivating blend of yellow, orange, pink, and apricot hues, set against variegated, arrow-shaped foliage. These long-lasting, multicolored blooms are ideal for creating striking monofloral bouquets and enhancing mixed floral arrangements.

'Captain Fuego' belongs to the Zantedeschia genus, commonly known as calla lilies. Native to South Africa, these plants are tender perennials in Zones 8-10 but are often cultivated as annuals or houseplants in cooler regions. They thrive as specimen plants and perform well in containers, both indoors and outdoors, with three bulbs typically filling a 10- to 12-inch pot. For a more dramatic display, consider mass planting or grouping them in beds and borders.

Easy to grow and virtually trouble-free, 'Captain Fuego' calla lilies flourish in sunny locations but can tolerate partial shade. In hot summer climates, full morning sun with afternoon shade is beneficial. They adapt to various soil types but prefer loose, organically rich, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs in spring after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 18 to 24 inches apart and 5 inches deep, with the 'eyes' or growing points facing upward.
