Azalea Indoor Care Guide

ARRIVAL:

Your azalea arrives pre-planted in a grower's pot nestled in its decorative container and is covered in moss to prevent dirt from spilling. Remove all plastic wrap from the grow pot and place back into decorative planter.

BLOOM TIME/REBLOOMING:

This azalea plant blooms in spring and, in some cases, continues into summer, which is considered its growing season. Remove blooms as they fade to encourage new blooms.

PLACEMENT:

Place near a window with filtered, indirect but bright light or in a well-lit room. Do not place in direct sunlight, which may scorch the leaves. Blooms will last longer if the plant is kept in a cool spot: 60-70°F is ideal, with night temperatures of 55-60°F. Keep away from heat sources, such as heat vents, heaters, radiators.

WATER/FEEDING:

Remove packing material on top of the container and add water until soil is moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top one inch of the soil feels dry. Do not overwater. Ensure good drainage and, to avoid root rot, never leave the plant in standing water.

Azaleas prefer high humidity. Misting the leaves regularly will help increase the humidity around the plant.

Apply a complete liquid fertilizer after blooming is over.

Jackson & Perkins offers a selection of fertilizer & plant care products. We suggest using AlgoPlus Fertilizer for the general health and maintenance of your plant.

PRUNING:

After the bloom cycle, you may prune to shape or encourage a bushier plant.

INSECT CONTROL:

You may use insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary. Keep an eye out for spider mites, aphids or whiteflies.

Note: by keeping good air circulation around the plant and avoiding overwatering, you can prevent fungal diseases.

TRANSPLANTING:

Generally, you can repot every 2-3 years if desired. Make sure to use fresh potting mix to replenish nutrients and provide more space for root growth.

When repotting, be sure to handle roots gently to avoid damaging roots. Do not cut roots.
