The Narcissus Award Winning Deer Resistant Blend features five varieties, each honored with the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. This carefully curated mix offers an extended season of blooms, from early spring through late spring. The blooming sequence begins with Little Gem in early spring, followed by Jet Fire, Minnow, Kokopelli, and Segovia in mid-spring, and concludes with Sun Disc in late spring. Though these varieties are somewhat diminutive in size, they make a significant impact in the garden with their award-winning blooms and enchanting fragrances. These flowers also attract a host of pollinators, including butterflies and hummingbirds, and are perfect for creating bountiful bunch bouquets.
These Narcissus varieties, commonly known as daffodils, have an upright, clumping habit and grow to heights between 5 and 12 inches. They multiply and naturalize easily, forming sprawling clumps of long, flat, strap-like leaves and producing showy blooms year after year. In ideal conditions, this blend will thrive, offering a reliable source of color each spring. Best planted in groups or masses, these daffodils are versatile and work beautifully in mixed beds, the front of borders, and patio pots. Consider planting them in large sweeping drifts in open areas, masses under deciduous trees, or smaller groupings in front of shrubs. They mix well with ground covers and other spring-blooming bulbs, and they can even be forced to bloom indoors during the winter months.
Cold hardy to USDA Zone 3 and extremely easy to grow and maintain, this deer-resistant blend of award-winning daffodils is virtually foolproof. These daffodils prefer areas with cool winters and warm, dry summers, but they adapt well to most USDA Zones if there is a discernible winter. They grow best in sunny to partly shady locations with rich, fertile, well-draining soil that has a neutral to acidic pH. Water the daffodils during their growth period, but avoid overwatering, as bulbs do not tolerate wet feet. When planting, space the bulbs 4 inches apart and plant them 4 inches deep. To encourage robust flowering, feed the bulbs with a balanced fertilizer like Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food as soon as new growth appears in the spring. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally before cutting it away, as the leaves continue to nourish the bulbs, ensuring future growth and blooming. This daffodil blend is also relatively pest-free and deer-resistant, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice for your garden.
