No need to wait for Valentine's Day to give your love a bouquet of roses; with All-America Rose Selection Love, you can fill every vase in the house all summer long.
A perpetually flowering grandiflora, Love offers exquisite high-centered, reflexed blooms with velvety red petals having a silvery-white reverse. Opening from classic pointed buds, these fully double blooms unfurl slowly, revealing the rich red within their pale exteriors. About 3 inches wide, they sport 30 to 35 petals, the edges elegantly curled under in the traditional hybrid tea fashion. Lean in for a whiff of its strong, spicy scent. Place a bouquet of Love in a closed room and you will definitely enjoy the pleasing perfume.
Winner of a 1980 AARS award, Love is the brainchild of famed Jackson & Perkins breeder Bill Warriner, who bred it from an unnamed seedling (the seed parent) x Redgold (the pollen parent). The shrub is of small stature, just 3 feet high and about as wide, with excellent branching and dense foliage, thanks in part to masses of thorns that protect the leathery dark green leaves from nibbling creatures. Compact enough for patio containers as well as small-space gardens, Love earns its keep with nonstop blooms all season long. Rather than flowering in waves with rests in between, this shrub is seldom out of bloom from May through September.
From the moment Love begins to set its reddish new foliage in spring, you know you are in for something special. Make Valentine's Day last all summer with this charming and unusual grandiflora.
