Description
Sweet fragrance and soft colors double the appeal

Iris Struck Twice is a tall reblooming bearded iris that reaches an impressive height of around 3 feet, making a striking addition to any garden. Blooming mid-spring to early summer and again in early fall, this iris showcases multicolored blooms that are truly mesmerizing. The creamy standards, which blush into a velvety salmon pink, seamlessly blend into the falls, highlighted by Mandarin red beards. These large, fan-shaped, and ruffled petals stand proudly on tall, sturdy stems above sword-shaped blue-green leaves. Not only do these blooms attract pollinators such as butterflies, but they also make stunning cut flower that can brighten up any interior space.

As an Iris germanica cultivar, Struck Twice is a rhizomatous semievergreen perennial with a robust, upright clumping habit. It multiplies each year, ensuring a fuller display as seasons pass. For the most dramatic effect, plant Iris Struck Twice in groups within mixed beds and borders, or create large drifts, in foundation plantings.

Bearded irises are renowned for their hardy nature, making Iris Struck Twice easy to grow and maintain. They thrive in sunny to partially shady locations, requiring 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily. While these irises can grow in almost any good garden soil, they prefer well-draining soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH between 6.1 and 7.2. It is essential to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, as consistently wet conditions can lead to root rot. Once established, Iris Struck Twice is both drought and heat tolerant and is also resistant to deer and rabbits, adding to its low-maintenance appeal.

Tall bearded reblooming irises like Struck Twice are bred for a second bloom, though this is dependent on favorable growing conditions. To encourage a healthy bloom cycle, apply Espoma Organic® Flower-tone® Blossom Booster approximately 6 weeks before the blooming periods in both early spring and midsummer.
