Description
Easy to grow with large, rounded blooms

A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Hydrangea Powerball™ Panicle Hydrangea is a compact, deciduous shrub reaching a mature size of 3 to 6 feet in height and width. Combining the resilience of panicle hydrangea (H. paniculata) with the full, rounded flowerheads typical of bigleaf hydrangea (H. macrophylla), Powerball is a winner with season-long interest. Its strong, sturdy stems hold large flowerheads upright from early to late summer, beginning as lime green and transitioning to creamy white before maturing to soft pink hues. Ideal for fresh or dried cut-flower arrangements, these blooms also add caramel-colored texture to the winter garden if left on the plant.

A Hydrangea paniculata cultivar, commonly known as panicle hydrangea, Powerball has a compact, upright, rounded habit suitable for smaller gardens and landscapes. It works beautifully in mass plantings or as a grouped border but is equally effective as a container specimen or foundation accent.

Powerball is easy to grow and one of the most winter-hardy hydrangeas, tolerating conditions down to Zone. It performs best in full to partial sun with average, well-drained soil and adapts well to clay soils, so it's a resilient, low-maintenance choice that resists disease and thrives in a variety of garden settings.

As temperatures drop, some Hydrangea paniculata varieties reward gardeners with soft pink or red hues. This natural shift depends on cool nights and the plant's genetics. In mild climates, blooms may retain their creamy white beauty.
