Description
Grow this compact, native beauty in containers and gardens

A member of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs, Hydrangea Gatsby Glow Ball™ Oakleaf Hydrangea is a compact shrub that reaches a mature size of about 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Its smaller-than-average size makes it an ideal choice for small spaces and container gardening. Blooming from early to late summer, this shrub produces large, crisp white panicles that gradually age to green, attracting bees and butterflies to the garden and providing beautiful cut flowers for fresh or dried arrangements. Its appeal continues through fall as the lobed, oak-like leaves turn rich shades of red, purple, and bronze. By winter, the blooms develop a tan to caramel hue, adding interest to the landscape, and the hollow stems offer nesting sites for native bees.

A Hydrangea quercifolia variety, commonly known as oakleaf hydrangea, Gatsby Glow Ball is a small, multi-stemmed shrub with a tidy, rounded shape. It's versatile enough to be used as a container plant, foundation accent, or informal shrub border, and it shines in mass plantings or woodland-inspired landscapes, too.

Easy to grow and maintain, Gatsby Glow Ball happily thrives in sunny to partly sunny locations and adapts well to most well-draining soils, including clay. Its resilience extends to heat tolerance and even to salty coastal air, making it suitable for a variety of climates and locations.

This native plant is indigenous to North America, so it's naturally adapted to regional climates and soils. Once established, this hydrangea requires minimal maintenance, thriving without fertilizers or excessive watering, and acting as a natural pest deterrent. Native plants like Gatsby Glow Ball™ enhance garden biodiversity, providing essential habitat and resources for local wildlife and pollinators.
