Description
A classic blue hyacinth with a fabulous fragrance and easy care

Plant Fragrant Baby Blue hyacinth bulbs in fall before the first frost, and by spring, enjoy the stunning blooms of these compact plants. Each plant produces large flower spikes densely packed with hundreds of star-shaped blue florets. These blossoms rise to a height of 8 to 12 inches on sturdy stems, surrounded by thick, strappy leaves. Fabulously fragrant, the powerful perfume of these flowers makes them a favorite among gardeners and pollinators alike, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies from near and far.

Fragrant Baby Blue, a variety of Hyacinthus orientalis commonly known as hyacinth, is a bedding-sized plant with an upright habit, requiring no staking. These hyacinths are best enjoyed when clustered or massed in the garden or containers, where their delightful fragrance can fully permeate the area. When grown in the garden, hyacinths will reappear for several years under ideal conditions, although their vigor may decline over time. With special handling, the bulbs can also be forced in soil or water for an indoor display, adding a touch of spring to your home.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 4, Fragrant Baby Blue hyacinths are easy to grow in sunny to partially shady locations with organically rich, medium moist, fast-draining soil that has a neutral to slightly acidic pH. When planting, space the bulbs 4 to 8 inches apart and plant them 4 to 6 inches deep. Keep the bulbs well-watered during the growing season and mulch for winter protection. After blooming, remove spent flowers promptly, but allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it. The leaves continue to nourish the bulb, ensuring future growth and blooming. Fragrant Baby Blue hyacinths are also deer resistant, making them a low-maintenance and reliable choice for your garden.
