Description
A native plant that brightens end-of-season gardens and containers

Hibiscus 'Valentine's Crush', a member of the Summerific® Collection by Proven Winners®. This rose mallow is a striking herbaceous perennial that blooms from mid to late summer. With its abundant and continuous flowering, this plant showcases a profusion of 7- to 8-inch flowers set against large, sun-bronzed ovate leaves, giving the plant a lush, full look. The ruffled blooms feature vibrant red petals and a slightly glossy dark red center and attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with their rich nectar and pollen.

As a Hibiscus hybrid, also known as rose mallow, 'Valentine's Crush' boasts a robust growth rate and a sturdy, upright structure that resists lodging. Despite its slow emergence in spring, this plant can grow an inch per day. It makes a stunning centerpiece in the garden or gorgeous "thriller" in a mixed container. It's also highly effective when massed or grouped in borders and landscapes. It's an ideal choice for bog gardens, rain gardens, or around bodies of water.

Rose mallow is a cold hardy plant that thrives in sunny to partly shady locations with fertile, organically rich, moderately moist, well-drained soil. It can also tolerate poor and acidic soils. To maintain its best appearance, keep the plant well-watered. In spring, trim back any remaining stems before new growth appears. Avoid trimming in fall and add heavy mulch in winter. This plant is also deer resistant.

As a native North American plant, rose mallow is not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally friendly. These plants are naturally adapted to the region's climate and soil conditions, thriving without the need for fertilizers or extra watering. They also serve as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides a habitat and quality food source for wildlife and pollinators, bringing your garden to life.

This plant has not grown at all. The other similar plant has grown two feet tall and is very happy. But this particular plant is apparently dead. I am so disappointed as I love the large flowers that the marsh mallow produces and was looking forward to seeing them.
