Description
A winter-blooming perennial with striking foliage and flowers

Glenda's Gloss®, part of the Frostkiss® series, is an evergreen perennial that brings year-round garden interest with its distinctive color and texture. Taller than many in the series and among the earliest hellebore varieties to bloom, Glenda's Gloss produces clusters of light greenish-white flowers with vibrant magenta margins, creating a stunning display from winter through early spring. Borne on strong, deep-red stems, these long-lasting, nectar-rich flowers unfurl above a rosette of smooth, shiny, and leathery leaves with delicate cream-colored variegation. The blooms make an excellent addition to cut flower arrangements and serve as an essential early-season food source for emerging bees.

This Helleborus hybrid, commonly known as hellebore or Lenten rose, exhibits an upright, mounding habit and moderate to vigorous growth. Glenda's Gloss is versatile in the garden, looking beautiful as a single specimen or when massed in beds and borders for a fuller effect. Its slow-spreading rhizomatous roots make it an ideal ground cover without becoming invasive, making it perfect for planting beneath high-branched deciduous trees or large shrubs, where it's naturally protected from winter winds.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, Glenda's Gloss hellebore thrives in dappled shade but can adapt to full sun in regions with mild summers if its roots are kept cool. This hellebore performs well in various soils, including chalk, clay, and loam, although it should be planted in moist, freely draining soil with a neutral to alkaline pH for optimal results. Once established, Glenda's Gloss is drought-resistant and naturally deters deer and rabbits, adding to its appeal as a low-maintenance choice for winter color and resilience.
