Description
Winter-blooming hellebore with resilient beauty and pollinator appeal

Cheryl's Shine® Hellebore, part of the Frostkiss® series, is a versatile evergreen perennial that brings color and life to the winter garden. One of the earliest in the Frostkiss series to bloom, Cheryl's Shine flowers abundantly and reliably from winter through early spring. Each bloom measures 2 to 3 inches across and displays light-pink petals touched with hints of coral and bright yellow stamens. The flowers are slightly nodding or outward-facing, perched elegantly on deep-red stems above a dense rosette of marbled foliage. Long-lasting and nectar-rich, the blooms provide a vital early food source for emerging bees and make a lovely addition to indoor bouquets.

This Helleborus hybrid, commonly known as hellebore or Lenten rose, grows in an upright, mounding habit with moderate to vigorous growth. Cheryl's Shine is highly adaptable in the landscape, serving beautifully as a specimen in garden beds or containers, and particularly striking when massed in beds and borders. The plant's slow-spreading rhizomatous roots make it a wonderful ground cover that won't become invasive. It's ideal for planting under high-branched deciduous trees or large shrubs, where it benefits from protection against winter winds and thrives in the dappled shade provided by the overhead canopy.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, Cheryl's Shine adapts well to various soil types, including chalk, clay, and loam. For best results, plant in a dappled shade location with moist, organically rich, well-drained soil, keeping the pH neutral to alkaline. This resilient hellebore is drought-tolerant once established and resists deer and rabbits, though it should be kept out of waterlogged areas. In regions with mild summers, Frostkiss hellebores like Cheryl's Shine will tolerate full sun if their roots remain cool and moist, enhancing their vigor and bloom longevity.
