Gladiolus Midnight Blossom Blend Bulbs

Midnight Blossom Blend features two stunning large-flowering gladiolus varieties: Black Beauty and Bunga. These statuesque beauties reach impressive heights of 36 to 60 inches on elegant stems, creating a unique and captivating color combination in the summer garden. Bunga's brilliant orange flowers beautifully complement the velvety deep maroon—almost black—blooms of Black Beauty. The dense spikes of funnel-shaped flowers open from the bottom up, making them perfect for striking summer bouquets and mixed floral arrangements.

Midnight Blossom Blend includes Gladiolus spp. varieties, commonly called gladiolus, glads, or sword lilies, that are perennial in Zones 7-10. For the most breathtaking displays, plant these gladiolus in groups within beds, borders, or containers. They are an excellent choice for cutting gardens and rock gardens. In windy areas, taller stems may require staking for support.

These gladiolus are simple to grow, thriving in sunny to partially shaded locations with fertile, well-draining soil that retains moisture. Improve sandy or clay-heavy soils with organic amendments like peat moss or bark for better structure and water retention. Fertilize lightly after planting and again in summer with a balanced plant food. Water deeply at planting and consistently throughout the growing and blooming season. Mulch to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Plant bulbs in spring after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 4 to 6 inches apart and planting them 4 to 6 inches deep. For an extended bloom season, stagger plantings every two weeks. After flowering, allow the foliage to grow until it browns or frost approaches. Lift, clean, and store the corms in a cool, dry location (40-50°F) for winter.
