Fritillaria Blend Crown Imperial Bulbs

Plant Fritillaria Blend bulbs in fall before the first frost, and by mid-spring, enjoy a spectacular display of vibrant blooms. This beautiful blend combines the orange-flowered Fritillaria 'Rubra' with the yellow-flowered Fritillaria 'Lutea', creating a striking contrast in your garden. The huge, showy clusters of downward-facing, bell-shaped flowers are topped with a pineapple-like tuft of spiky leaves, rising 36 inches high on thick, straight stems. These stems are adorned with whorls of lance-shaped, glossy green leaves around their lower half. This Fritillaria Blend features cultivars of Fritillaria imperialis, commonly known as crown imperial lilies. For the most dramatic effect, plant the bulbs in groups or masses within garden beds and borders.

Fritillaria thrives in sunny spots, but in hot summer climates, some afternoon shade can be beneficial. The soil should be moist but well-draining, avoiding any soggy conditions. After blooming, allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it, as the leaves continue to nourish the bulbs, promoting healthy growth and future blooms. The unique scent of crown imperial lilies not only adds to their charm but also helps repels deer and rodents, making them a resilient choice for your garden.

For best results, plant Fritillaria bulbs immediately upon receipt to prevent drying out. Space the bulbs 8 inches apart and plant them 5 to 6 inches deep, setting them at a 45-degree angle to prevent water from sitting in the stem hole. Water well to settle the bulbs and feed with a balanced fertilizer to encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering.
