Croton Care Guide

ARRIVAL:

Open your gift and unwrap the container, then carefully follow the instructions below to grow and enjoy a healthy plant.

BLOOM TIME/REBLOOMING:

Does not typically bloom indoors. May produce tiny blooms outdoors in Zones 11a-12b.

PLACEMENT:

Display your croton plant indoors in an area with bright indirect light. If variegated/colored leaves begin to turn solid in color, move the plant to a location where it will receive more bright indirect light, which will bring the variegation back to the leaves. Keep away from drafts or sources of direct cold. Temperatures of 70° to 75˚F are ideal.

WATER/FEEDING:

Water regularly, at least once a week during warmer and summer months, to keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Be sure to drain excess water so there is no standing water at the bottom of the container. Do not let the plant dry out completely between watering.

Croton Houseplant in Reclaimed Wood

Apply a complete liquid fertilizer every other month during the growing season, typically March through September.

Jackson & Perkins offers a selection of fertilizer & plant care products. We suggest using AlgoPlus fertilizer for the general health and maintenance of your plant.

GROOMING:

Wipe leaves with a damp rag to remove dust.

TRANSPLANTING:

When your plant has outgrown its current pot, especially if roots are growing out of the drainage holes, transplant in early spring, if possible. With each repotting, increase the pot diameter 1 to 2 inches in size and use fresh, high-quality potting soil. Make sure your new pot has ample drainage holes so the soil can drain properly.

IMPORTANT: Ornamental plant material should not be eaten. Keep away from pets and children.
