Description
A tropical stunner with one-of-a-kind artistry on every leaf

A newer introduction, Colocasia 'Mojito' Elephant Ear is a tropical foliage plant that adds unique charm to summer gardens. Reaching 36 inches tall and wide, it showcases striking 8- to 14-inch leaves borne on bold purple stems. Each leaf is a masterpiece, featuring a painterly mix of dark speckles and splotches, ensuring no two leaves are alike. Occasionally, yellowish-white spathes may appear, but they are not part of the plant's ornamental appeal.

A frost-tender perennial Colocasia esculenta variety, 'Mojito' thrives in Zones 10-11 with a multi-stemmed, upright habit and rapid growth, reaching its mature size in just one growing season. It's ideal for container gardens, pond margins, or rain gardens, where its bold foliage creates a tropical focal point. Whether planted alone or in groups, it offers dramatic impact and serves as a striking backdrop for colorful blooms.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, 'Mojito' requires consistently moist conditions and thrives in sunny to partially shaded areas with organically rich, fertile, loamy soil. In hot summer climates, afternoon shade helps maintain its vigor. Its deer-resistant qualities make it an excellent choice for gardens frequented by wildlife.

Plant 7- to 9-inch rhizomes in mid-spring, spacing them 3 to 4 feet apart and planting them 1 inch deep once soil and air temperatures consistently reach 60°F. In colder climates, lift the bulbs in fall and store them in a cool, dry location where temperatures remain above 45°F. Replant in spring for another season of bold, tropical beauty.
