Description
Versatile and vigorous climber for stunning vertical displays

Clematis Boulevard® Ravel™ is a deciduous climbing vine that enchants gardeners with its stunning purple-blue flowers and robust vining habit. Blooming heavily from late spring through late summer, Clematis Ravel™ boasts abundant blossoms with dark purple centers set against medium green foliage. These flowers are a delight to behold and make lovely additions to cut flower arrangements.

Reaching a height of 4 to 5 feet, Clematis Ravel™ is perfect for adding vertical interest to your garden. This versatile plant can be trained to climb trellises, arbors, posts, or fences, bringing a touch of elegance and color to any vertical structure. Alternatively, grow it in a container or allow it to spread along the ground in mixed beds, where it will gracefully meander through shrubbery. For an even more striking display, pair Clematis Ravel™ with a climbing rose. The clematis vines will twine around the sturdy rose stalks, mingling their blooms beautifully through the growing season.

Clematis Ravel™ is easy to grow, provided it is given the right conditions. It thrives in locations where its leaves receive plenty of sunshine (approximately 6 hours daily), while its roots remain shaded and cool. This can be achieved by planting it alongside low-growing evergreen shrubs or using heavy mulch. Clematis Ravel™ is hardy in USDA Zones 4 through 8 and prefers moist, well-draining soil with good air circulation.

This Group 3 late-flowering clematis blooms on new wood in the summer and fall and requires annual pruning to maintain its vigor. In late winter, before new growth appears, prune back the stems to about 2 feet above healthy leaf buds. This hard pruning helps remove dead or weak stems and encourages robust new growth. For a second flush of flowers, you can prune again after the first bloom in early summer, cutting back to large buds. While deadheading is unnecessary, these steps ensure a prolific flowering season and maintain the plant's health.

By choosing Clematis Ravel™, you are investing in a versatile and visually striking plant that will enhance your garden with its vibrant blooms and robust growth habit. Whether you train it to climb or let it spread along the ground, this clematis is sure to be a standout feature in your landscape.
