Cherry Tart™ Caladium Bulbs

Caladium Cherry Tart™ is a tender perennial in Zones 10 through 12 but can be grown as an annual in cooler climates. Caladiums, commonly called angel wings, are prized foliage plants. Cherry Tart is a lance-leaved variety characterized by its dense, broadly heart-shaped leaves on slender, upright stalks. The vibrant red leaves are beautifully contrasted by a wide green border, creating a stunning visual effect.

Caladium Cherry Tart boasts a compact mounding growth habit, making it an ideal choice for adding depth and texture to garden beds, borders, hanging baskets, and containers. When planted in groups or masses, these plants create a stunning color display. They also serve as an excellent underplanting option and can be grown indoors as a houseplant.

Caladiums are tropical plants that are incredibly easy to grow and require minimal maintenance. They flourish in warm, humid conditions and prefer shady to dappled sun locations. These plants thrive in fertile, organically rich, consistently moist, well-draining soil with an acidic pH, but they can adapt to a wide range of soil types. While they require little upkeep, monthly fertilization can enhance their growth. The Cherry Tart variety is particularly sun-tolerant and can thrive in full sun, especially in northern climates.

Cherry Tart was released in April 2011 by the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. In replicated field and greenhouse trials, tuber yield and pot plant quality were comparable or superior to 'Florida Red Ruffles' and 'Florida Sweetheart', currently the most popular red lance-leaved commercial variety and the most popular lance-leaved variety, respectively.
