Caladium 'White Wonder' Bulbs

'White Wonder' is a stunning strap-leaf caladium prized for its bold and elegant foliage. Its elongated, arrowhead-shaped leaves showcase a striking palette of white to grey-green with light pink to white veins and mottled dark and light green borders. This intermediate, upright plant grows rapidly, reaching 12 to 18 inches tall with a lush, mounding habit. While small, calla-like flowers may appear in summer, they are typically removed to direct the plant's energy toward its vibrant, show-stopping leaves.

A Caladium bicolor variety, commonly known as angel wings, 'White Wonder' is native to Brazil and thrives in warm, humid conditions. It can be grown as a tender perennial in Zones 10-11 or as a cheerful houseplant or summer bulb in cooler regions. This caladium shines when planted in naturalistic groups or masses in beds, borders, hanging baskets, and patio pots. It's also an excellent thriller for mixed container gardens.

'White Wonder' is easy to grow and thrives in shady to dappled shade spots, tolerating more sun than most caladiums, especially in cooler climates. It prefers organically rich, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-6) that remains evenly moist but well-draining to avoid root rot. Regular watering and monthly fertilization will ensure lush, vigorous growth. This deer-resistant plant can thrive for years with proper care.

Plant tubers in warm spring soil after frost danger has passed, spacing them 6 to 8 inches apart and planting them 1½ to 2 inches deep with the rounded side and "eyes" facing upward. To encourage a more evenly rounded plant, remove the main "eye" (shoot) before planting. Tubers can also be started indoors in flats or pots filled with damp peat moss or vermiculite and transplanted outdoors once temperatures warm.

In colder climates, dig up tubers in fall after foliage dies back or before the first frost. Overwinter in a dry, cool location where temperatures remain above 45°F. Container plants can be brought indoors for winter enjoyment.
