'Pink Symphony' is a stunning lance-leaf caladium renowned for its ornamental, heart-shaped foliage. Delicate and compact, this beauty grows 10 to 12 inches tall, making it perfect for adding color and texture to shaded spaces. Its slender, ruffled leaves create an ever-changing display of pink and green hues, with each leaf maturing into a unique pattern influenced by light exposure and maturity. Though 'Pink Symphony' may produce small, calla-like flowers in summer, they are typically removed to focus energy on the vibrant, show-stopping leaves and tuber growth.
A tropical Caladium bicolor variety, commonly called angel wings, 'Pink Symphony' thrives in warm, humid climates and is perennial in Zones 10-11. In cooler regions, it's ideal as a summer bulb or an indoor houseplant. Plant it in naturalistic clusters or masses in beds, borders, hanging baskets, or patio containers for a lush, tropical effect. It also makes a striking centerpiece in mixed garden containers alongside other shade-loving plants.
'Pink Symphony' is low-maintenance and flourishes in shady to dappled shade conditions, with its best coloration occurring in partial sun. It tolerates more sun than many other caladiums, especially in cooler climates. Plant it in nutrient-rich, neutral to slightly acidic (pH 5.5-6) soil that remains evenly moist but never oversaturated to avoid root rot. Regular watering and occasional fertilization will support its vigorous growth. Resistant to deer, this plant will reward proper care with years of vibrant foliage.
Plant tubers in spring once frost danger has passed, spacing them 6 to 12 inches apart and planting them 1½ to 2 inches deep with the rounded side and "eyes" facing upward. For a fuller, more balanced plant, remove the main "eye" before planting. Alternatively, start tubers indoors in pots filled with damp peat moss or vermiculite and transplant them outdoors when the weather warms.
In colder regions, dig up tubers in fall once the foliage dies back or before frost arrives. Store them in a cool, dry location where temperatures remain above 45°F. Container-grown plants can be brought indoors to overwinter, adding beauty to your home during the colder months.
