Description
A rare, velvety anemone prized for its rich, dark blooms

Plant Anemone 'Meron Bordeaux' bulbs in fall (warm climates) or early spring after the last frost (cold climates) to enjoy one of the darkest, most striking anemones available. By late spring to early summer, these bulbs produce large, open-faced flowers with a deep purple center and velvety maroon petals that shimmer with an iridescent sheen, appearing almost black. Each bloom sits atop a long, sturdy stem that reaches 12 to 18 inches tall, making them perfect for elegant cut flower arrangements while also attracting butterflies and other pollinators.

A cultivar of Anemone coronaria, commonly known as wind flower, 'Meron Bordeaux' is a rhizomatous perennial (Zones 7-10) with a clumping, mounded habit of finely divided, fern-like green foliage. Its low-growing nature makes it an ideal ground cover, and it thrives in woodland and rock gardens. For maximum impact, plant these exquisite anemones in large drifts of about 16 bulbs per square foot or in decorative pots and containers. Pair them with late daffodils and later blooming tulips for a truly breathtaking display.

'Meron Bordeaux' is remarkably easy to grow and thrives in well-draining soil, regardless of soil type. While it prefers full sun, it tolerates light shade, especially in warmer regions. Fertilize in spring as foliage begins to emerge, and enjoy its deer- and rabbit-resistant qualities for a low-maintenance addition to your garden.

Soak the small corms in lukewarm water for several hours or overnight before planting them 2 to 3 inches deep and 3 to 6 inches apart. In Zones 3-6, lift the bulbs in fall to overwinter indoors. Add a touch of elegance to your garden with the dramatic blooms of 'Meron Bordeaux.'
