Description
A striking blue bloom, perfect for pairing with late daffodils and tulips

Plant Anemone Darkest Blue windflower bulbs in the fall before the first frost, and by early summer, your garden will be graced with compact plants bearing finely cut foliage and an abundance of large, poppy-like blue blooms. These striking flowers, each with a central boss of black stamens, are borne on long stems that rise 12 to 18 inches tall. The bold, blue-hued blooms make incredibly charming and long-lasting cut flowers for early-summer bouquets, and when left in the garden, they attract bees and butterflies, adding life and color to your outdoor space.

Anemone coronaria 'Mr. Fokker', commonly known as windflower, is a small tuberous perennial with a low-growing, mounding habit. Windflowers are an excellent choice for ground cover in woodland and rock gardens and are equally stunning in patio pots. They are perfect for clustering in flower beds and borders, planting in drifts around trees and shrubs, or layering in a lasagna planting with grape hyacinths and alliums, whether in the garden or in containers. These versatile bulbs can also be forced indoors for early spring displays, bringing a burst of color into your home.

A Mediterranean sun-lover, anemones thrive in sun-soaked spots. In hotter climates, some afternoon shade may be beneficial to protect the plants from excessive heat. While anemones aren't too fussy about soil, they grow best in medium moist soil with a slightly acidic pH. The key is ensuring the soil drains freely, as waterlogged conditions can cause the bulbs to rot. To give these lovely bulbs a head start, soak them in lukewarm water overnight before planting. Plant Darkest Blue anemone bulbs 3 to 6 inches apart and 2 to 3 inches deep. For a dramatic sweep of blooms, plant about 16 bulbs per square foot. Windflowers are also deer resistant, making them a low-maintenance addition to your garden.
