Pope John Paul II
MEDFORD, OR, March 10, 2006
Jackson & Perkins Company today announced the exclusive debut of a commemorative hybrid tea rose in honor of the late Pope John Paul II. The luminous, pure white rose with a crisp refreshing fragrance was specifically chosen by the Vatican to honor John Paul II and will be planted this year in the Vatican gardens overlooking Saint Peter's Basilica. Ten percent of the net proceeds from the sale of each rose will be put at the disposal of Vatican City, which has informed Jackson & Perkins that it will donate these funds to a
charity benefiting the poor of Sub-Saharan Africa. The rose will first be sold in
mid-March, just weeks before April 2, the first anniversary of the Pontiff's death.

Bill Williams, President, Jackson & Perkins, said, "Pope John Paul II, a man of peace and compassion, was one of the most revered leaders of our time. With this stately, white rose, we pay homage to his far-reaching impact upon the people of the world. We welcome the Vatican's decision to assist the poor of Sub-Saharan Africa."

Jackson & Perkins representatives worked closely with Vatican officials over many months to designate this rose the Pope John Paul II Rose, choosing it because it so elegantly honors and invokes the memory of the late Pontiff.

Due to very limited quantities this spring, we have made available the first Pope John Paul II roses in an exclusive, limited edition of 2,500 Commemorative Rose Collections.

Each commemorative collection includes a bareroot Pope John Paul II rose, an engraved garden marker to place near the rose when it is planted, plus a handsomely embossed portfolio lined with moiré silk. Inside the portfolio is a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity, which also bears one of the late Pontiff's popular homilies.

The Rose will be available exclusively in the Jackson & Perkins® catalog in March 2006 or at www.jacksonandperkins.com. The 2006 limited edition Commemorative Rose Collection will be sold for $150.00, plus delivery and handling charge. An unnumbered Commemorative Rose Collection may be reserved for delivery in 2007 at a price of $110.00 plus shipping and handling, or a single Pope John Paul II bare root rose may be reserved for 2007 delivery at a price of $24.95 plus shipping and handling.

The Pope John Paul II Rose joins a significant list of commemorative cause roses that honor prominent leaders and organizations with support for a designated charitable activity. Jackson & Perkins® Cause Roses include those named for Diana, Princess of Wales, Veterans' Honor, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Habitat for Humanity, Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan.
