Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit
A sport of H. 'Fortunei Albomarginata', Hosta 'Francee' is an herbaceous perennial offering 3 seasons of interest. A highly popular garden standout, grown for its dramatic ornamental foliage, this variegated hosta has heart-shaped, rippled, medium-green leaves (up to 8 inches long) with narrow, painterly brushstroked white margins. The lush, arching foliage holds good color throughout the season. Funnel-shaped pale lavender flowers bloom in late summer, attracting hummingbirds. Borne on up to 30-inch-long scapes, the flowers make nice additions to floral arrangements.
A Hosta hybrid, commonly called plantain lily, 'Francee' has a dense, mounding habit and a fast growth rate. 'Francee' is a highly versatile plant, shown to best effect when grouped or massed in beds and borders. But it also makes a lovely container plant as well as nice edging.
Cold hardy, easy to grow, and low maintenance, Hosta 'Francee' prefers dappled to full shade and rich, moist, well-drained soil. Plants should not be allowed to dry out. Hosta 'Francee' is heavy shade, morning sun, and black walnut tolerant.
