Weigela florida Fine Wine™ PP 18,513
Darker leaves, better branching, and more compact habit.
We didn't think it was possible to improve upon W. 'Wine and Roses,' but this splendid award-winner has done it! With a more compact habit, better branching, even darker purple-burgundy leaves, and abundant hot-pink blooms, Fine Wine™ is a sun-loving, butterfly-attracting shrub you will want for the border, edging, and containers.
Just 2 feet high and wide, Fine Wine™ sets deep purple foliage that becomes nearly black in the late summer heat. Very small, the leaves are densely set on short stems. in early summer they sport small, bright pink tubular blooms that act as butterfly magnets for many weeks on end. The perfect contrast to the subdued dark tones of the foliage, these flowers are eye-catching from across the garden.
Just the right size for containers, Fine Wine™ also does well in the front of the foundation, as edging along the driveway or sunny garden paths, and as an accent planting in any sun-soaked location. The best foliage color emerges in full sun. Winner of a Gold Medal from the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society and a Silver Medal from the Boskoop Royal Horticulture Society, Fine Wine™ is a garden gem. Zones 5-8.
