Burgundy Queen™ Syringa vulgaris Lilac Shrub
Fragrant, Brilliantly-colored Blooms!
A beloved French Lilac with earlier, more profuse blooms than many others, Burgundy Queen™ is a sheer delight in the mid-spring garden. The burgundy-red flowers are set in huge, conical clusters, perfect for cutting or garden enjoyment.
Reaching 8 to 10 feet high and 6 to 8 feet wide, this well-branched, extremely vigorous Lilac sets masses of very large trusses of deep red flowers that open from purple buds. It may remind you of the old favorite 'Monge,' but is even more floriferous and dependable.
Burgundy Queen™ flowers in mid-spring, 10 to 14 days earlier than most other French hybrids, so makes a good choice for extending the Lilac season in your garden. After all, you can never have too many of these sweet-smelling harbingers of spring.
Give this plant plenty of sunshine, good drainage, and some pampering the first year to get its root system established. After that, it is quite self-sufficient, whether used as a specimen or as part of the border or allee. Bred by L. E. Cooke, it is a tried-and-true favorite, certain to please. Zones 3-8.
