Passionate Blush Wand Flower
More Dense Flowering and Brighter Colors than Others!
Burgundy foliage matures to dark green.
Plant Patent #17,293. Cultivar name: 'SME-2'
Well well well, look at the bright new look for Gaura! 'Passionate Blush' represents such an improvement over earlier varieties that you may have to do a double take to recognize it as humble Wand Flower at all!
Compact and very floriferous, this sun lover sets bright pink blooms on much shorter stems than previous varieties, setting the flowers closer together for a more dense, colorful look. The pink is particularly bright on dark stems, and the foliage is dainty (the leaves are just an inch or so long), which makes the blooms look even bigger!
'Passionate Blush' reaches only 18 to 24 inches high and about 18 inches wide, with a rounded, upright habit. it blooms from early summer through early fall, an exceptional length of time for any Gaura, and attracts butterflies all season long. Such a pleasure in the sunny garden!
Summer isn't the only season of glory for this perennial. The new leaves unfurl burgundy in spring, keeping their red tones for several weeks before going green in warmer weather. A nice stand-out among spring-blooming bulbs!
Give this native plant well-drained soil receiving full sunshine, and pamper it a bit the first year to get it established. You'll find that it makes itself right at home the second season, and persists for years, brightening any setting over a long, long time. Highly recommended for garden or container. Zones 7-9.

I accidently found these plants this year and they are wonderful! They are 3 and 1/2 ft tall and almost as wide. They have quadrupled in size if not more. The tiny little delicate flowers are so sweet in a formal garden, a wild flower and/or ornamental grass garden. They seem to grow absolutely anywhere you have a nice warm (full) sunny spot! They are very easy to grow and do well when it is hot and humid!
