Miracle Fruit
Berries serve as all-natural, calorie-free sweeteners!
Miracle Fruit is a most unusual plant with most unusual properties. This evergreen shrub from tropical West Africa sets masses of bright red berries that, although they have no strong flavor by themselves, turn everything you eat after them sweeter and more delicious.
When the berry is consumed, bitter or sour foods will taste amazingly sweet. While it sounds not of this earth, after consuming the Miracle Fruit berry, for 30 minutes to up to 2 hours, lemon, rhubarb, stout beer and other flavors taste sweet. This phenomenon is the centerpiece for parties and events. This container plant is fun, hard to find, and will be the talk of the patio.
Miracle Fruit contains a glycoprotein that suppresses the "sour" center in tastebuds, so immediately after eating one of these berries, a lemon will taste sweet and a grapefruit will need no sugar to taste sugary and delicious! And now you can have Miracle Fruits right on the patio or in the home year-round!
Set this shrub in your best container in full sunshine and enjoy it on the patio, deck, or porch throughout the warm months, then bring it indoors for winter. It offers evergreen glossy green leaves, and begins fruiting from a young age (at about two feet tall). Pyramidal in shape, the shrub reaches only 2 to 3 feet tall in containers, thriving in a highly acidic soil mix of equal parts sphagnum peat moss and perlite.
Content outdoors in temperatures of 60 degrees F and warmer, Miracle Fruit grows slowly and beautifully. Enjoy it for years to come!
