A North American native and a fine choice for the front of the border, the rock garden, or to naturalize in woodland areas, the Hairy Lip Fern is a treasure. Growing 6 to 16 inches long, the fronds are dark green with a light covering of hairs; the undersides are densely hairy, giving the plant a wooly look. Highly drought tolerant, it may go dormant during dry periods, but will resume growth once moisture returns to the soil. Needs good drainage; best in part shade. 6 to 8 inches high, 12 to 15 inches wide.
