The elegant recurved shape of these dangling bell-shaped blooms gives them their name, but it is the stripes and the sheer number of flowers that makes 'Pagoda' the distinctive, irresistible herbaceous Clematis it really is! Bred in England from a native American species, this super-floriferous late bloomer is an essential groundcover. From midsummer through mid-fall, this scrambling vining plant is covered in 3-inch bells of pale pink broadly striped in rich grape-purple. The texture of the petals is crinkly and nubby, highly unusual for Clematis and very intriguing. You'll want to plant 'Pagoda' where you can enjoy it up close, or plan on cutting its abundant blooms frequently for closer study! This groundcover reaches 8 to 10 feet long and 2 to 3 feet wide in full sun to light shade. The foliage is light to mid-green, looking very fresh and new even at season's end. A deciduous variety, 'Pagoda' lasts until late fall in the garden.
