(PP 6320) The show never ends on this splendid native Dogwood! In spring, stunning 2-inch white blooms dot the bare branches of this small tree, followed by showy TRICOLORED foliage -- pink, white, and green! -- that keeps its color all summer. Bright red fruit appears in mid to late summer, and when the cool weather sets in, the leaves turn first pink, then deep red. I don't think there's another Dogwood in the world to compare with 'Cherokee Daybreak' for color patterning and continuous seasonal interest! In the past, variegated Dogwoods have been a disappointing lot, often succumbing to powdery mildew during hot, humid summer weather. 'Cherokee Daybreak' is outstandingly clean, demonstrating much less susceptibility to powdery mildew than its cousins. And because the foliage arises after the mid-spring blooms, it remains looking fresh throughout the summer, each leaf boldly edged in pink and white. Scarlet berries, which begin in mid- to late summer, stand out beautifully against the leaves, which eventually turn solid pink, then glow a fiery red. Reaching 25 feet tall and 18 to 20 feet wide at maturity, 'Cherokee Daybreak' is a fine foundation planting, accent, or specimen. It is tolerant of just about any well-drained, moist soil receiving full sun, and is trouble-free once established. Space our 3-year-old trees 15 feet apart in the garden. Zones 5-9.
