Hyacinth Bulb in Forcing Vase Care Instructions

Fill the lower portion of the jar with water so it is just at the base of the bulb. The bulb will sit in the upper portion of the jar. Place in a cool, dark location for 6 to 8 weeks while the roots develop. The optimum temperature is 48°F or lower.

DO NOT FREEZE. Check the jar frequently in order to maintain the appropriate water level and make sure the water stays clear. Do not let the jar dry out. Once the roots have developed, place the jar in bright, indirect light for about 10 days, until the leaves turn green. Then move it to a bright sunny spot. As the foliage and blooms grow, turn the jar every day to prevent the stems from leaning toward the light. Discard the bulb after the blooms have passed.
